I now weigh (unofficially) 18# 8 oz and am 27 1/4″ or so! I’m just about out of my infant carseat! My latest doings are to grab my toes with my hand. I haven’t shoved them in my mouth yet, but I’m sure I’ll get there soon.
The doc just called and said that the x-ray’s he took of Spence’s chest looked good and he didn’t see anything. So, the surgery is on. Hopefully they’ll get it all!
The doc called after the surgery and said everything went well. They will send the lump and a biopsy of a nearby lymph node off to pathology for grading. We’re hoping for a low grade and clear margins around the lump. Doc said we’ll know in 4 or 5 days, so probably mid-week next week.
I took Spence in this morning. The plan is to take some more x-rays to see if the cancer has spread. If it hasn’t spread, then the surgery is on. If it has spread, then we’ll have to decide if it is worth it. Hopefully it is!
Spencer turned 9 on 4/2. Curt took him to the vet a few days prior for several issues he is having, including the lump on his back right leg that swelled up quite a bit after he ran outside all day on one of those nice Spring days. This particular lump had been tested 2 times before, and both times they told us it was just a normal fatty acid lump that Labs tend to get. When they aspirated it again this time, the results came back as cancer.
So, they also took a sample from a nearby lymph node, and it doesn’t appear from that test that the cancer is spreading. Spencer is scheduled for surgery this Thursday to have the lump removed. They are going to take a pretty big chunk out so they can try to make sure they get everything. We’ll know more once they send it to pathology to be tested. Hopefully, it is a low grade tumor, and he’ll have a few more good years in him!
Curt should be posting this, but he hasn’t yet, and it’s too funny not to share. Wish we would have had a camera or video camera for this one. I’m sure we could have won something on America’s Funniest Home Videos.
Last weekend, Eric went outside with Spencer to play in the backyard. Curt happened to look out the kitchen window just in time to see Spencer peeing and Eric bent over at the waist, looking under Spencer and watching him pee. By the time Curt walked to the back door, opened it, and looked out, Eric had his pants down and was peeing on the same spot Spencer had.
Ahh kids and their antics!
