Eric is going to a birthday party for Wyatt, our next door neighbor, this afternoon.  Eric drew a card for Wyatt and flipped it over to write Happy Birthday.  He made it all the way through Happy without any problems.  He then started on Birthday and made it through Bir when Deb made the “th” sound.  Eric shot a look at Deb and said, “I know!”, then finished “Birth”.  The only help he needed was adding y to day.

I did post this picture on our photo website, but I thought I’d also post it on our website to explain the situation. Eric went into the bathroom to do his usual business. He was in there a while, which is normal, so I didn’t think anything of it until I heard some weird, albeit quiet, grunting noises. I called out to ask if he was ok, and in a sort of scared, quiet, whine he said, “I have a problem”. So I went into the bathroom to see this:

except when I went in, he was still sitting on the toilet, no pants, no underwear!

I asked him if it was hard to get that over his head. “Yep.” So I busted out some veggie oil smeared the seat, and with some coaxing & tears, it finally came off. I don’t think he’ll be doing that any time soon again! ;b

So we all went together to vote on Monday to LVM school just down the street from our house (nice and convenient). When we got into the gym where the voting booths were, Eric asked with concern, “Where’s John McCain”? Not sure why he picked McCain and not Obama - we don’t usually see too many commercials, thanks to the DVR, so it was probably because John McCain and his supporters relentlessly called our house for the last few weeks. Regardless, it was such a cute expectation that the candidates would be there.

We were driving on the interstate the other day, and there was a car going 55 MPH, so I changed lanes and sped up and passed it. Eric asked me, “Mommy, are you going fast enough to earn a ticket?” The play on words makes the whole prospect of being pulled over, not seem so scary! I wonder what the officer would have to say, if I asked him/her if I was going fast enough to earn a ticket?!?

I now weigh (unofficially) 18# 8 oz and am 27 1/4″ or so! I’m just about out of my infant carseat! My latest doings are to grab my toes with my hand. I haven’t shoved them in my mouth yet, but I’m sure I’ll get there soon.

We went to Lake Mills last weekend for the annual fish fry (mmmmm…. yummy!).  We stayed at Mom & Dad’s with Beth, Craig and Lucas.  Earlier on Saturday, Eric was talking about how he wanted to be a race car driver when he grew up.  Beth, Craig and Lucas showed up later on in the morning and when we were hanging around, waiting to go out in the boat fishing, I asked Eric to fill Uncle Craig in on what his plan was for when he grew up.  Eric happily told Craig that he wanted to be a race car driver, then he turned to me and asked, “Daddy, what do you want to be when you grow up?”  Without missing a beat, I said, “retired”.

Where has the time gone! I can’t believe it’s already been 4 months! Kendra had her check-up yesterday. She is 26″ long (97 percentile) and weighs 16 # 12 oz (97 percentile). Her head circumference is 43 cm (90-97 percentile). We are going to have some tall kids, not unexpectedly. She had her shots and is so far tolerating everything very well. Doctor gave the go ahead to start solids next month, but we’ll see. We may give it a go later this month.

She is a very happy, chatty baby who loves her big brother! He is the one who can get the big belly laughs from her just by smiling at her. She is trying to roll over, but hasn’t quite done so on her own (she’s always had a little nudge from one of us). A few weeks ago she started interacting with toys. She’s studying them, grabbing them and making a pretty good attempt at getting them to her mouth. Her arms are still flailing wildly, so when I’m holding her, she’s often giving me a good whap on the back. She loves to grab my hair, too.

What makes a car a really, really fast car? Well, according to Eric - if it has a spoiler, it’s a fast car. If it has a cool paint job, it’s a fast car. If it passes us on the road, it’s a fast car. If it has “speedy wheels” (wheels that Eric thinks have fancy rims), it’s definitely a fast car! Now you know!

A few days ago, Eric decided that we all just weren’t “dressed up” enough for dinner. He came out of the bathroom with several of my headbands on his head and a scarf around his neck (similar to this picture taken around Halloween 2007).

He also decided that Curt and I needed a slight makeover before we ate. He handed Curt a headband and said, “Here you go, my dear.” We all had a good laugh.

I didn’t realize how much I say certain phrases to Eric until I hear them come out of his mouth!
