This is the weekend that Caroline (Curt’s college friend) is getting married. We had some grand plans to head down to Rockford on Friday to meet up with Cindy and David (Curt’s friends in Rockford) for dinner, then head to Joliet for the wedding on Saturday.
Mother Nature had another idea. She decided that Friday was a good day to dump some snow on the region, which caused us to cancel our plans for Friday night. We got up Saturday morning, packed up the dog, kids and ourselves and headed out. We got to Janesville (about 1/2 an hour south of us) when Mother Nature started up again. The roads were glare ice and cars were in the ditch everywhere. We pretty much stopped and were lucky if we hit 5 miles an hour after that. There was a semi in the ditch and an SUV that got the worst of it.

After seeing that and testing the road a few times (it was so icy, it didn’t take anything more than a tap on the throttle to cause the tires to spin) we decided it wasn’t worth the risk and turned home.
It was a really tough decision. We were really excited to see Caroline get married and party it up with all of our friends.

Eric’s preschool (Monona Grove Nursery School) had a 50th Anniversary party that we attended, and not to be outdone by his Great Grandpa Phil (who can often be seen in local newspaper articles in Watertown for his volunteer work), Eric (& I) ended up in the Monona newspaper, The Herald Independent, in an article about the celebration!

The full text of the article can be found on The Herald Independent website.

Well, I don’t know how much she weighs right now (carrying her in the car seat is definitely a workout), but I measured her this morning and she’s 24″. In week 4, she started smiling more as a reaction to us than just random smiling. Last week she started cooing more and “talking” to us and her bug mobile above her changing table. Eric did the same thing… he loved the mobile, too.
She loves looking at Eric, especially when she blows bubbles for him. She also likes the contrast between Spencer’s black coat and the white ceiling. She’s very alert, and gets overstimulated very easily, which makes it a challenge sometimes to get her to fall asleep.

We’re selling the boat.
We used it 3 times last year and 2 times the year before. It spends more time in the driveway than it should. So, we decided to unload it and will upgrade once Kendra is a little older.

On December 26, I had what should be my last ultrasound before babe #2 makes her debut. Yes, that’s right, for those we neglected to update… it’s definitely a girl (confirmed once again by this ultrasound). She looks perfectly healthy, and they estimated her current weight to be around 4 lbs, which means she will be around 8 lbs when she is born (+/- 1 lb). It’s amazing the things they can see in the ultrasounds (internal organs, brain, heart, blood and blood flow, etc). When Curt gives up the new computer, I will add a photo or two from the slew they gave us (she was really cooperative, and apparently likes to have her picture taken).
