Maybe some other minor touch ups and cleaning, but there is nothing major left to do. Appliances, carpet and painting is done! There was some grading done last week. This week they complete grading, planting and seeding. Based on the neighbors yard, we’re in for some major weeds until the grass takes. We’ll be calling in someone to help us with weed control.
It’s been a while again, since we’ve updated on house progress. We were a little busy moving out of the old house, and visiting some old neighbors in Eau Claire. The house is coming along famously! Everything is mudded, taped, textured and painted. That was done when I (Deb) got home from Eau Claire last Thursday. The lights were all in the house in our bedroom closet, ready to be installed; and the vinyl was laid in the mudroom, laundry room and upstairs bathrooms. Everything looks awesome!
We went to show the house to Curt’s parents today (Sun 7/24), and the garage door had been installed. We were messing with the keypad, trying to get the door to open, but it just wasn’t working. Disappointment crept in, thinking we weren’t going to be able to go in… Then Ray tried the garage door itself. Sure enough… lifted right up. The garage door opener wasn’t even plugged in yet.
To our surprise, the cabinets, doors, trim, etc, were all in the house ready to be installed. That is scheduled for Monday 7/25. The laminate will go in after the cabinets are installed, and the driveway and sidewalk are scheduled to be poured this week. We’re hoping to get the kids handprints in there somewhere.
Will add pictures when I get to a place with free internet.
Shortly after the electrician, plumber and HVAC guys were done, the insulators were there doing their thing. The next day the siding people showed up and started siding the house and at the same time the drywall was delivered. I imagine they managed to hang some of it by now (July 8th) and they are going to be taping/finishing it starting early next week (July 12th).

Front of house. Oh, and you can see where we “enhanced” the framing under the front porch for a future swing. It is more or less right above the powder room window.
This is the master bedroom and walk-in closet. The insulation is covered with plastic and the ceiling has plastic on it too. They will blow in the cellulose insulation after the drywall is up.
Our original plan was to push the island out 12″ because we added 2′ to the back of the house. When it came time to lay out the island with the transition between the wood floor and the carpet, it was pretty clear there wouldn’t be much room between the edge of the island and the transition to carpet; meaning you walk 1/2 on the wood and 1/2 on the carpet when walking around the island. Not ideal.
Rodney, our construction manager, worked with us to figure out how to achieve our goal of having more room between the cabinets and the island. We came up with a solution of moving the island back a little and changing the angle of the transition between the wood floor and carpet. The result was this nice bright orange line on the floor showing where the transition is from wood to carpet. Wood on the left, carpet on the right. The result is the edge of the island will be about 2’6″ from the wood to carpet transition.
The wood floor will be on the left of the orange line and carpet to the right. You can see roughly where the island will be toward the kitchen wall. There is an orange line running perpendicular to the back wall. That is the front edge of the island.
This week they got the roof on and were starting to work on the heating and A/C as well as plumbing and electrical. We went through the house with the electrician and placed the outlets, switches and lights. It went pretty quickly as they had it all planned out. The HVAC guys were there at the same time getting the duct work in and installing the furnace and A/C unit. The plumbers were there getting all of the plumbing and gas lines hooked up. LOTS of progress in one week!

Um…. I don’t think that is what those PVC elbows are for, Eric. And, yes, I think Kendra can hear you.
We went to visit the new house on Tuesday, and much to our surprise, more fantastic progress has been made! When the kids and I (Deb) drove by there were three men working on the roof. The garage walls are up, the second floor is up, the roof rafters are mostly complete, including the porch & garage roofs. We only peeked at it today from the outside, as there are a lot of 2×4′s bracing up different areas of the house, so we figured we would stay out until it was a bit more “complete”. We are excited to venture upstairs. We are still pleased with all the progress, and it’s so much fun to witness each step.
NOW we’re talking! First floor is beginning to take shape. We were able to walk around the first floor and basement of our new house tonight! Next step, second floor! It’s amazing how the perspective changes from step to step. At times, it looks really small, other times, it seems the size I am expecting it to be. Tonight was a lot of fun envisioning where everything would be!
I stopped by the house after work to see if they had removed the forms, and they had! Here are the pictures. These guys don’t waste any time.
This is a shot of the garage. You can see the cut out for the service door on the back right and the walls for the mud/laundry room coming into the garage area just to the left of where the service door is going to be.
This is more of the house, from the right side. The strange rectangle area on the front is going to be the front porch.
Here is the main part of the house. The two notches in the foundation wall on the right side of the main area is where they are going to put too beams which will support a vast majority of the load.
